Join us for FREE milkshakes on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the PA State Capitol Senate side lawn. We will be celebrating June Dairy Month by serving up our famous milkshakes. Attendees can also meet a baby calf and get their photo taken with her! Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding, Miss Pennsylvania Kayla Repasky and Pennsylvania Dairy Royalty will also be at the event to highlight the importance of dairy farms in the state.
Making School Lunches Great Again: Toomey Introduces Bill Allowing Schools to Offer Whole Milk to Kids
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) has introduced the Milk in Lunches for Kids (MILK) Act to allow schools to serve whole milk and two percent milk.
The MILK Act also requires the Secretary of Agriculture to revise regulations to exclude milk fat from the cap on saturated fat in school lunches. Currently, schools may only serve fat free or one percent milk with lunches.
PA Dairymen’s, Dairy Excellence Foundation Offer $3,000 Scholarships
Harrisburg, Pa. – High school students who are pursuing an education in a dairy-related field can apply for one of ten $3,000 Student Leader scholarships made available through the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association and Center for Dairy Excellence Foundation for the 2019-20 academic year. The deadline for students to apply for the annual Student Leader Scholarship is June 1. The scholarships recognize outstanding students in dairy, including undergraduate students and high school seniors who are entering college in the fall.
